~DEUTSCHLAND NEWS FROM MAZZA~

My first month..

For anyone who I don't e-mail, and who wants to know what events are going this is what you'd want, this page is the general some up what's been goin on. The photos will be on the other pages!!

So here I go:

Jet Lag, now here's something interesting about travelling half way around the world besides the whole different culture thing. There were times I swear I was tired, but didn't want to sleep, maybe that was just me of course. I was tired but wouldn't go to bed until someone generally made me. That was the first week or so. My first day however was me at the airport (Hannover) where no one was there to meet us... fun hey? 25 plus hour flight and there are 4 teenage girls standing outside a foreign airport with the language skills to thank people, say please and order drinks. (maybe we knew a bit more, but I don't think much) Susie finally came and it was a wonderful run for the train. All of us with about 20 odd kilos, actually I managed 45 kilos.... Oh that was fun. So being the brilliant girl that I am, realising 'oh... 4 flights of stairs... well they go down so.... YES!! Throw your bag!!' Not knowing what else to say I yelled 'watch out' as my bag went rolling down. Stroke of Luck the only thing damaged was an aussie shot glass (I was still upset but) Then my first month consisted of language school, there was 9 of us in the class, 3 New Zealanders and 6 Australians. Cafes in the afternoon, the Anno, Eis Cafe, Cafe Bohnne. And the Keller at night.

Weekly Highlights of the first month

The Abi Party: This is a party which is at a club and you pay about €2 to get in and get a stamp for if your under 18 or over (I got the over!)but anyway it's a celebration before deutsch students have to do their abitur, which is their big end of school test like the NSW HSC. There was dancing, singing (I did a demonstration of the cheltenham school song because it's the same tune as the deutsch national hymn and with Kristie belted out a WUNDERBAR australian anthem!)During some of the night Rosie and I went to another club and played pin ball.. I love pin ball. Then came back started with the tequilla shots!!

My host mum's birthday: I didn't know and felt so horrible! But that day we went on the church tour (my host Dad was the pastor) and I got to ring one of the massive bells specially for her! That night there was a party for her, all adults so I went out and oh man....lets just say kinda embarressing but fun.

MY BIRTHDAY! Turning 16 here is like turning 18 in Australia because it's the legal age for stuff, like drinking too! but apart from that my geburtstag, oh man.... it was all good, it started at midnight. We were at the Keller (for Kara and I our home away from home away from home)Jette, Kara and I drank down a shot of tequilla silver on the stroke of midnight to ring in my 16th!!Then everyone was wishing me a happy birthday, and I later I went outside and Benny and Jette sang me the 'happy birthday to you' song, not the same as the normal happy birthday song. Everthing was good, like the party that night when I got thrown up and down in a chair while being sung this german song by these guys, and when I got blindfolded and had to hit a wooden spoon against the floor looking for an upside down saucepan, and then when all the lights were out and we lit a bunch of birthday candles and were swaying them while crakin up the aussie music, so we were singing 'I am australian'. That had to be weird for the Duetschlanders.

Martina's 18th!: Well we went to Bardenhause (another town), it was a party in a fire station!! So awesome!! And again dancing, and meeting so many excellent people (like Martina and Kati) and spending the night going from the party to this bar, and playing darts, and talking to everyone!! This was my last night before I had to go to Kiel.... It was so so so so so so so so so sad to leave, but a great night!!

My first month was really good, one big party but also learning about the culture first hand. Now in my second month I'm not going out as much (in my first house my host bro, Hans, was a 16 year old "alcoholic chimney"... not really, but him and his friends (Jette, Nils, Thomas, Martina, Kati(both)Henrika, Sean, Ellie, Mona and even Bola)were all such champions! I couldn't believe how nice people were, especially since I hardly knew them!!) but I'm learning about everyday life in Deutschland, house hold routines, bus timetables, school timetables. Meeting people is so much fun and learning the language is just trippy altogether..... If anyone ever has thoughts about travelling DO IT!! So far it's terrific.

Well I'll write more später. Viel Spaß meine lieblings. Alles Liebe Mazza
